The Complex Esportiu Futbol Salou has used for the first time the two new beach soccer pitches and has done it during the beach soccer Europe Qualifier for the 2019 World Beach Games San Diego. An advocacy for a new sport that enables the facilities to keep being a sports reference site of excellence and quality both in the Costa Daurada and the rest of State.
The qualifying sporting event has been a four-day happening in which beach soccer has been Costa Daurada’s focus thanks to the participation of men and women’s national teams from around Europe. For the occasion a small stadium with grandstands and a capacity of 1000 were set. This capacity number was reached at some moments, specially during the games played by Spain’s men and women’s national team.
Beach soccer concentrates all the most amazing aspects of modern football: technique, agility and, especially, goals. The action takes place on fine sand which favours a way of playing enjoyable for fans. The ball is most of the time up in the air, which encourages players to perform unimaginable moves for the enjoyment of the public.
It is a fast-paced and dynamic sport; kicks can be done from any part of the pitch and there is an average of 60 shots per game. A match is split into three 12 minutes periods and, there is always a winner. Therefore, if there is a draw, three minutes are added. If the tie continues, a penalty shootout takes place.
The incomparable party atmosphere that beach soccer supporters can enjoy of is unambiguous and is still present during the three-minute breaks. Music, shows, entertainers and dancers are in charge of keeping the atmosphere ready between halves.
