Mare Nostrum Easter Cup tournaments have been presented this Monday, 1st of April, in a press conference held at Complex Esportiu Futbol Salou. The event has confirmed once more that the commitment to turn the Costa Daurada into a sports tourism destination works, as it has been announced that more than 10.000 people will stay overnight in the area during the tournament.
The press conference has counted on the participation of Albert Viñas, CEO of Mare Nostrum Cup and Director of Sport at Complex Esportiu Futbol Salou; Sergi Novell, director of Accommodation of Blasi Business Group; Pere Granados, Mayor of Salou; Jordi Cervera, councillor for sports at Reus’ City Council; and Eduard Farriol, President of the Federació Empresarial de Turisme de Tarragona (Hotel and Catering business association of Tarragona). All of them have highlighted the importance, for the area, to receive this high-quality tourism linked with sport.
Mare Nostrum Easter Cup tournaments have become a reference for Catalan grassroot sports. They are played every year in Salou and in other towns of the Costa Daurada during Easter break. The three competitions, MNC Football, MNC Basket-Ciutat de Reus and MNC Futsal, have beaten their records of participants for this new 2019 edition, with almost 600 teams, which far exceeds the 494 teams of 2018.
The XIX MNC Football counts on more than 300 football teams that will compete between the 18th and 21st of April. The venue will mainly take place at Complex Esportiu Futbol Salou, nonetheless there will be a total of 28 pitches around the province.
Before, the IX MNC Basket – Ciutat de Reus will take place. 220 teams will participate in 19 categories; 18 out of 469 games will be played simultaneously and the Costa Daurada will be again the capital of basketball during Easter.
The MNC Futsal tournament is played between the 3rd and the 5th of May. Last year, this competition was played for the first time with 40 clubs and in 2019 there will be 70, as there are more categories.
