This morning the 19th edition of the lawyers’ World Football Cup MUNDIAVOCAT, an international tournament created in 1983, has been inaugurated. It is the biggest sportive event opened to bar associations and law firms from around the world. This edition has exceeded the organizer’s expectations with 3.221 participating lawyers from 37 different countries.
The opening ceremony has been held at Complex Esportiu Futbol Salou and has started with the march of the 140 registered teams.
The ceremony has also been attended by the major of Salou, Pere Granados, who has stated that “it is a great opportunity that Salou and all the territory has to demonstrate to the world that we have a great capacity to welcome far-reaching international events like this. It probably is the most important sporting event of these kind that has taken place in our territory; we are talking about more than 40 countries and more than 3.000 lawyers”. He has also valued MUNDIAVOCAT as “extremely positive, specially for a destination like ours, where we are firmly committed to reduce seasonality in tourism thru sport. And we see how with examples like this it is possible, that, in this case, it is successfully being done by Complex Esportiu Futbol Salou”.
The team’s draw
In this nineteenth edition, MUNDIAVOCAT uses the Complex Esportiu Futbol Salou’s facilities and football pitches as the football tournament neuralgic centre, and with the Cambrils Park Resort facilities as the “MUNDIAVOCAT Village”.
On Friday the 4th the tournament’s venues started. All day long the participants were progressively arriving at Cambrils and Salou. In the evening, after registering and settling into their accommodations, the team’s draw ceremony took place at Cambrils Park Resort. The event took place around the renewed Polynesian Sea area, where two big LED screens were installed. It was a ceremony similar to FIFA’s draw which counted with the participation of Manel Albiac and the mayor of Cambrils, Camí Mendoza.
7 days, 6 tournaments and more than 500 games
Both the team’s draw and the opening Ceremony at Futbol Salou, have mark the beginning of a more than one-week event.
Altogether, in this edition more than 500 football games will be played. The games will take place at ten of the eleven Futbol Salou football pitches and at the municipal football pitches of Cambrils, Riudoms, Reddis (Reus), Vila Seca, Salou and la Granja (Tarragona). For the first time, a Super legend’s tournament and a Women’s tournament will be organized (five-a-side football).
An international symposium about “Football law” and “Transfers law” will also be organized, which will be leaded by renowned speakers in the field of law. A formal dinner for the 3.000 participants will be celebrated at Cambrils Park Resort, an event that will foment the fraternity among colleagues from different countries and will make the games more fun. In this dinner, the candidates for the MUNDIAVOCAT 2020 host will present their candidacy. In particular, both candidates are Marrakech and Estoril.
All in all, these activities will finalize next Saturday, May 12th, when all the finals will take place. A closing ceremony will take place at Complex Esportiu Futbol Salou, where performances will take place to close the tournament until 2020.
